Universitat de Cervera

It was concieved and designed after ther Spanish War of Succession. Whereas Catalan universities had been closed under a sovereign ordinance, the University of Cervera was promoted by Philip V of Spain (it was started in 1717 and finished in 1804) to give room to university students from all over the country. The new territorial centralism was emphasized by the new monarch, since the academic institution was located far away from the main Catalan cities in a town without a military garrison to avoid possible riots.
